# PDF Tools > PDF Tools is an Android app that creates, merges, compresses, splits, password-protects, imports, shares, and manages PDF files, and recognises text in images and scanned pages with on-device OCR, all directly on the phone. Every document is processed on the device rather than on a server, so no file is uploaded. It is developed and published by Syed Shahbaz Hussain and distributed on Google Play. Its interface is translated into 20 languages and follows the device language. The current version requires no account and contains no ads, subscriptions, or in-app purchases. ## Product facts - App name: PDF Tools - Platform: Android only, distributed on Google Play - Android package name: com.shahbaz.pdftools - Developer and publisher: Syed Shahbaz Hussain (independent, no company) - Developer website: https://www.syedshahbazhussain.com/ - Official website: https://pdftools.syedshahbazhussain.com - Support email: support@syedshahbazhussain.com - Price: available at no cost; no ads, subscriptions, or in-app purchases in the current version - Account: none required, no login - File handling: files are processed locally on the device and are not uploaded to any server - Offline: the PDF and OCR features work without an internet connection; the in-app Help & Support form needs one to send a message - Permissions: images and PDFs are chosen through Android system pickers; camera, microphone, media-library and external-storage permissions are blocked in the app manifest ## Released features - Image to PDF: turn one or more images into a PDF, with Low, Medium, or High quality and an A4, Letter, or Fit Image page size - Merge PDF: combine multiple PDF files into one document, with the order arranged before merging - Compress PDF: reduce the size of one selected PDF, using a Standard or Strong level; on success the app reports the original size, the new size, and the percentage reduced, and the details screen opened from that confirmation repeats the three figures as a compression summary. The comparison is not stored with the file, so opening the same document later from My Files shows only its current size - Split PDF: save every page of a PDF as its own separate document; the source must have at least 2 pages - Password Protect: encrypt a PDF with AES-256 (PDF standard security handler, ISO 32000-2 Revision 6); the password is never stored, uploaded, or recoverable - OCR: recognise text in images and scanned PDF pages on the device using a text-recognition model bundled in the app; images, PDFs, and recognised text are never uploaded (the bundled Google ML Kit component sends Google basic diagnostics about itself, not content) - Import PDF: bring existing PDF files into the app for management - My Files: one library listing created and imported documents with their size and type - Preview, Share, Delete: open a document, hand it to the Android share sheet, or remove it - Appearance: Light, Dark, or System theme, where System follows the device theme - Storage controls: clear the recent-files list without deleting PDFs, or delete all app-managed PDFs and their history - Contact Support: an in-app form for a question, suggestion, bug report, or feedback, with an optional JPEG, PNG, or WebP screenshot up to 2 MB and a request ID kept for reference; it is the only feature that transmits anything, and only when the user taps Send Request ## Languages The app interface is translated into 20 languages. This covers the interface only: it does not change how PDFs are processed, and OCR text recognition is not localized per language. - Codes: en, es, pt-BR, fr, de, ar, id, tr, ru, ja, ko, it, vi, th, bn, pl, ms, fil, zh-CN, zh-TW - Names: English, Spanish, Portuguese (Brazil), French, German, Arabic, Indonesian, Turkish, Russian, Japanese, Korean, Italian, Vietnamese, Thai, Bengali, Polish, Malay, Filipino, Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional) - Selection: the interface follows the device language automatically; there is no in-app language picker - Fallback: a device language the app does not cover falls back to English - Right-to-left: Arabic is supported and the interface is laid out right to left for it - Regional handling: any Portuguese device gets pt-BR; Chinese resolves to zh-TW for the Traditional script or the TW, HK and MO regions, and to zh-CN otherwise; Tagalog (tl) resolves to Filipino - Website: this website is published in the same 20 languages. English sits at the root and every other language under its code, for example /es/features/ or /ja/features/. Each page declares the full set of alternates, so quoting a page in the reader's own language means swapping the prefix ## Product boundaries These limits are accurate for the current release and should not be described otherwise. - Not available on iPhone, iPad, web, or desktop - Does not edit text inside a PDF, fill forms, or sign documents - Does not convert PDFs into Word, Excel, or other formats - Does not translate recognised text or rebuild a searchable PDF from it - Does not translate documents; the 20 languages are the app's interface, not the content of any PDF - Has no in-app language picker; the interface follows the device language and cannot be set separately - Cannot open a PDF that is already password-protected, so such a file cannot be merged, compressed, split, or read by OCR - Cannot recover a forgotten PDF password; protection is not reversible by the app or the developer - Large, corrupted, or password-protected PDFs may fail to merge - Compression results depend on the source file; an already optimised PDF may not get smaller - No published ratings, review counts, or download figures ## Main pages - [PDF Tools homepage](https://pdftools.syedshahbazhussain.com/): what the app does, the tool list, and app screenshots. - [Features](https://pdftools.syedshahbazhussain.com/features/): every tool in the current release. - [About PDF Tools](https://pdftools.syedshahbazhussain.com/about/): developer identity, current scope, and what the app deliberately does not do. - [Image to PDF](https://pdftools.syedshahbazhussain.com/image-to-pdf/): creating a PDF from images, including quality and page size options. - [Merge PDF](https://pdftools.syedshahbazhussain.com/merge-pdf/): combining several PDF files into one. - [Import PDF](https://pdftools.syedshahbazhussain.com/import-pdf/): importing existing PDFs and managing them from My Files. - [Compress PDF](https://pdftools.syedshahbazhussain.com/compress-pdf/): the Standard and Strong levels, and why a PDF that is already optimised may not get smaller. - [Split PDF](https://pdftools.syedshahbazhussain.com/split-pdf/): saving every page of a document as its own PDF. - [Password Protect](https://pdftools.syedshahbazhussain.com/password-protect/): AES-256 encryption, the password rules, and what the app cannot undo. - [OCR](https://pdftools.syedshahbazhussain.com/ocr/): reading printed text off images and scanned pages on the device, and the size and page limits. ## Guides - [How to reduce PDF file size on Android](https://pdftools.syedshahbazhussain.com/blog/reduce-pdf-file-size-android/): what makes a PDF large, the Low/Medium/High image quality options used at creation time, the Standard and Strong compression levels, how to verify the result, and why an already optimised PDF may not shrink. - [How to password protect a PDF on Android](https://pdftools.syedshahbazhussain.com/blog/password-protect-pdf-android/): what AES-256 encryption on a PDF does and does not protect, the 8-64 character password rule, why the original file is left unchanged, how to send the password safely, and why a protected PDF can no longer be merged, compressed, split or OCR'd. - [All guides](https://pdftools.syedshahbazhussain.com/blog/): index of published guides. ## Questions, support, and policies - [Frequently asked questions](https://pdftools.syedshahbazhussain.com/faq/): pricing, offline use, platform availability, file storage, sharing, OCR and password protection. - [Support](https://pdftools.syedshahbazhussain.com/support/): troubleshooting for merge failures, missing files, and sharing problems, plus the support email. - [Privacy policy](https://pdftools.syedshahbazhussain.com/privacy/): what the app accesses, local processing, what the in-app support form transmits, and the diagnostics the bundled Google ML Kit component sends to Google. - [Terms of use](https://pdftools.syedshahbazhussain.com/terms/): terms covering responsible use and app limits. - [Google Play listing](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.shahbaz.pdftools): the official download. ## Machine-readable sources Every page links to this file with `rel="describedby"`.
